Jeremy Liebman, Coincidence

A meditative new photobook by Jeremy Liebman

For more than a decade, Jeremy has contributed to the visual language of Apartamento magazine, shaping 16 features spanning subjects from Ingo Maurer to Mel Ottenberg. With Coincidence, he turns his lens inward, presenting a deeply personal body of work made between 2020 and 2025, born from an instinctive desire to photograph his life as it unfolds.

Exploring family, memory, and ideas of home through black-and-white photography, the book moves between Dallas, Texas, Brooklyn, New York, and the English countryside, following three generations of the Liebman family as their lives uncoil in parallel. As Coincidence traces these convergences through fragile fragments of domestic life, small symmetries emerge. Fallen books echo the collapse of language; the home—the childhood home, the nursing home—appears uncanny, promising tenderness while at times reduced to a façade, emptied both literally and metaphysically.

As Jeremy reflects: ‘When you’re a kid, everything is visual and internal—you’re flooded with the world. As you develop language, a separateness emerges. And as my dad lost his ability to speak or understand, there was a re-immersion into that world of pure inputs’.
