glittering corners of fashion, film, and sport turn the lens on themselves, caught in ways you’ve never seen before. Handing his camera to his sitters and stepping out of the frame, Jonas
tampers with the role of the photographer, surrendering the lens and some of its authority, while never wholly relinquishing his own.
Celebrity, honesty, and dramaturgy meet the defining photographic phenomenon of our time: the self-taken photograph. Moving through philosophical dives and detours, the photobook
catches people shaped by the limelight at the moment control over their image briefly changes hands. Gathered over more than a decade, these self-portraits, also known as his ‘Autoportraits’, form a book about the puzzles of authorship and spectatorship.
How close can a portrait get? And what are we really seeing when someone famous looks back at themselves?
